Tina Carby, MSW, RSW

Social Worker

As a social worker I have had the privilege of being able to support and provide therapy to children, adolescents, adults, couples, and families across the lifespan. I provide a relaxed, non-judgmental and supportive atmosphere in which clients can discuss their concerns.  I use evidence-based, problem-solving, and strengths-based approaches to psychotherapy, while drawing on each client’s personal experiences.

Together, we will identify different patterns and obstacles that are impacting your mental health, relationships, or overall well-being. Our work together will be client-centered and purposeful.

“The greatest good you can do for another is not just share your riches, but reveal to them their own”.

Clinical experience

Over the course of my career, I have had the privilege of working in a variety of social work settings, including several interdisciplinary teams within the community and in primary care. I have experience working in women’s shelters, CNIB, child welfare, men’s domestic violence programs, and family health teams. As the lead social worker at the Arnprior and District Family Health Team, I am able to liaise with a number of family physicians and other health professionals, while overseeing the flow of the mental health program and patient care. I also provide individual therapy to children, adolescents, adults, couples, and families, as well as co-facilitate group therapy for depression, anxiety, and stress management.

In my private practice, I work with clients struggling with mental health, family, and/or social concerns. I use a holistic and strengths-based approach with each client, while incorporating the following therapeutic methods: cognitive behaviour, emotion-focused, solutions-focused, interpersonal, positive psychotherapy, and mindfulness techniques. My role has involved working with patients with or without a diagnosis.

In my role as a social worker and advocate for my clients, I also help navigate applications for provincial and federal government benefits. This includes assistance with completing applications for ODSP, housing, and various insurance and legal documentations.

I also have a passion in community outreach, having provided many psycho-educational/information sessions to patients and the community at large. For example, I have been asked to present workshops to community organizations on stress management and self-care.

I am continuously upgrading my knowledge and skills through supervision, workshops, webinars, conferences, and/or peer support.

“Everyone has a purpose in life—a unique gift or special talent to give to others. And when we blend this unique talent with service to others, we experience the ecstasy and exultation of our own spirit, which is the ultimate goal of all goals.”  – Deepak Chopra
