Therapist

I currently work under the supervision of a registered Clinical Psychologist providing individual therapy and consultation services for children (ages 6+ years), adolescents, and young adults.

My theoretical approach to therapy combines support, empathy, clinical knowledge, and collaboration. I believe in a judgment-free environment that provides a safe space for a client to explore emotions and gain perspective. This environment would help to establish appropriate goals to help them overcome their mental health challenges. I select interventions based on a client’s personality, emotional presentation, goals for therapy, and best-practice guidelines. Interventions often include behavioural, cognitive, and solution-focused techniques.

Clinical experience

Since 2006 I have obtained education, training, and experience in providing psychological therapy, psychological assessment, and consultation to school-aged children and adolescents (4yrs-21yrs) in multiple settings. I have experience providing support through consultations, therapy, and assessments for academic, personal, social, family, and peer issues. I worked specifically in a government institution for adolescent male offenders by providing individual and group counselling for behavioural challenges, social and emotional challenges, neurodevelopmental disorders, and mood disorders. I also worked in a setting that focused on supporting families with children with disabilities and special needs to improve their mental health and quality of life. Since 2012, I have additionally been working full-time with the Ottawa Carleton District School Board (OCDSB) psychological department supporting students, families, and staff with individual therapy, group therapy, psychodiagnostic and psychoeducational assessments, and professional consultations.

Overall, I have worked in varied settings from rural to urban locations supporting children, adolescents, and families with various social, emotional, health and wellness concerns. I believe in staying current with best practices and do so by attending conferences, workshops, and reading current literature.
